  • Practice: A Work in Progress

    These 20-minute alla prima studies portray characters from my current tv addiction. I set a timer, use a limited palette of acrylics, and one brush… my trusty #4 filbert. 
    I’m happiest when I achieve a likeness with few revisions. I really enjoy working full speed with one brush, without concern for small details, but tradeoffs with certain features (blobby eyes, meh….) can be disappointing. Some are created even faster, in about 10 minutes with the leftover palette of a first piece.

  • The Last Summer


    with Netflix in my mailbox. Or maybe not – I adore Netflix. In any case I  was moved to take out my oil pastels and mess around; it’s inevitable that someday DVDs will go the way of VHS.
